What Is a Troll

If youve participated in any conversation on the Internet or on the USENET system, youve probably encountered a troll. If youve ever wanted to know exactly what makes a troll troll, read further.

There are two ways that you can understand what a troll is. One definition of the term refers to a post that is laid out on an Internet forum or on a USENET newsgroup as bait. The term "troll" in this case is a reference to the style of fishing where the fisher puts bait in the water and pulls it along slowly, waiting for something to bite. Using this definition, the post itself is referred to as the troll.

The second way that you can understand a troll is as a reference to the person themselves. A forum or newsgroup troll is a person who deliberately puts offensive, confrontational, dishonest or factually incorrect material in a post in an effort to start a conflict. Trolling can get much more vicious than this, however, and it sometimes crosses the line into Internet bullying.

Dealing with the Trolls

"Dont feed the trolls" is one of the most common directives that you will hear on USENET newsgroups and on Internet forums. Basically, this is a slang way for asking the users of the forum or the newsgroup to simply ignore the types of posts that trolls crank out. Most of the time, this is actually the best way to get rid of trolls. Trolls arent looking to participate in a conversation: theyre looking to start a fight. If they dont get the conflict that they are after, they will usually move along and look for another group of people to bother.

In fact, the worst possible thing that you can do when somebody puts a troll post on a thread that you started is to reply to the troll post. Most of the time, moderators will hop in at some point and simply delete the post and remove the person who posted it from the newsgroup or from the Internet forum. This is the best way to get rid of these problems. If you reply to the post, the troll will certainly reply to your reply and it will go on and on. The reason that people ask that nobody feed the trolls is because these endless, confrontational and completely pointless conversations are simply annoying to the other people on the Internet forum or the USENET newsgroup and will cause them to go somewhere else.

Trolls are everywhere. You will inevitably find them, no matter what type of Internet interaction you participate in. If youre having a serious problem with a troll, such as one whos been threatening or bullying, you may wish to take more serious action than simply contacting the moderators of the group. If it is simply somebody trying to be a nuisance, however, the first step should be to just ignore them and the second step should be to continue ignoring them for the foreseeable future. Given enough time, they will simply go somewhere else.

What Is a Sockpuppet

AppId is over the quota AppId is over the quota

Whenever youre on the Internet, youre pretty much assuming that the person youre speaking to is who they claim to be. Sometimes, however, that may not actually be the case.

USENET terminology is sometimes rather amusing. One of the more clever terms to come out of USENET terminology is the term "sockpuppet". A sockpuppet is a silly name for a practice that is sometimes actually rather sinister. Most of the time, however, people who are engaging in the use of a sockpuppet arent doing anything particularly menacing, although many people may find it a bit strange.

A sockpuppet is a phony Internet identity. What differentiates a sockpuppet from other phony Internet identities is that the person who uses the sockpuppet uses it as a way to voice the opinions, the interests or to sing the praises of their actual Internet identity.

Heres an example. Imagine you were watching a debate on a political USENET newsgroup. Somebody publishes an article voicing their support for installing a new culvert in your local city park. Somebody else immediately retaliates and gives a very good argument against placing the new culvert in the city park. The advocate for the culvert immediately replies with their own words and, to make it seem like they have more people on their side, they publish a phony article to the newsgroup and the attribute that article to their sockpuppet identity.

People have been caught using sockpuppets to promote their interests, their products and their webpages in the past. Oftentimes, the dead giveaway of a sockpuppet identity is somebody who constantly praises a particular individual and who seems to always show up on the same newsgroups or forums that that individual participates in. Sockpuppet identities can also be used on webpages and in any other online venues where its possible for an individual to conceal their actual identity.

More Sinister Uses

If you participate in USENET newsgroups or Internet forums, you are well aware that there is a certain percentage of people who will become absolutely obsessed with winning arguments over the petty as to matters. In some cases, these individuals will chime in with numerous different sockpuppet identities to try to back themselves up or to give themselves the appearance of broad support. When this is just being done for ego and vanity, its not that bad of a problem. When its being done to promote a product or to disseminate false information, however, it can become a serious issue.

If you plan to participate in the USENET system, be aware that using sockpuppets will generally get you kicked out of any newsgroup where the moderator finds out that you are engaging in this practice. Good debate and conversation on the Internet is completely dependent upon honesty. A sockpuppet, of course, is dishonest in every regard. The only real fun thing about sockpuppets is that, if you bust somebody using one on the USENET newsgroup or on an Internet forum, its fair game to call them out on it and you might even want to engage in a little bit of MSTing with the sockpuppet posts.

What Is A Mobile Repeater System

With the surge in the use of cellphones its unavoidable that an increasing number of users may encounter signal and connection problems within their various walks of life. For many companies this is an ever-increasing problem as a dependable mobile phone service is often jeopardised for a lot of different reasons.

Resulting from the issues that a lot of folks and establishments are experiencing, mobile repeater systems are becoming popular to tackle the issue and to make everyones mobile phone service a better one.

In this article I check out a lot of of the reasons why cellular services can at times be erratic and how mobile repeater systems are boosting network dependability globally.

There are many reasons why cellular connectivity and reception can suffer. Rural areas really are a classic example where often the density of housing makes it unlikely that the mobile phone suppliers would construct brand-new base stations as they are not commercially viable.

The material implemented in the assembly of the building may also have a negative effect on signal strength. Any structures implementing lead as a roof covering material or especially thick concrete or steel within the building would also become affected.

The size of the building could also have a negative affect on signal strength, as substantial structures for example hospitals and big factories can commonly have little if any signal when trying to use a mobile phone device from deep inside the building, or perhaps a basement area.

All of the above instances would benefit vastly from a mobile repeater system boosting the mobile signal.

So precisely what is a mobile repeater system?

The system functions in a somewhat similar way to a television aerial in that it utilises an antenna and therefore boosts and amplifiers the signal, making it more effective over a wider area. These antennas are exactly like the cellular phone towers made use of by the network providers for broadcasting, but are off course a great deal scaled-down and are typically installed in each specific construction.

There is also an supplemental perk in that the battery life of a mobile phone is by and large increased resulting from the reduced power required to broadcast the signal.

As cell phone usage will continue to grow so will the need for mobile repeater systems. As additional companies begin offering a mobile repeater system the costs can without doubt become increasingly competitive for businesses of all sizes. There are already a lot of extremely competitive deals being offered and for that reason, it is not only the huge organisations who are able to afford the systems but the smaller business too.

The author works in the media and design industry and is based in in the UK. For information on Mobile Repeater systems he highly recommends visiting Eurosatellites.com and for other helpful technologies such as IPTV he suggests TvOverLAN.com
